في هذا الدعاء، يرشدنا الإمام زين العابدين عليه السلام إلى هذه الحقيقة: أن شكرنا لله تعالى يحتاج إلى شكره على نعمة الهداية لشكره، والقدرة التي وهبنا إياها لأداء هذا الشكر

وهذا ما أسماه الإمام علي عليه السلام "شكر الشكر" في قوله: "من شكر الله سبحانه وجب عليه شُكر ثانٍ، إذ وفّقه لشكره، وهو شُكر الشكر"

Grateful for being grateful

Gratitude to God is a crucial notion in Islam. The layer of gratitude we are most familiar with is being thankful for the blessings we have been granted. But there is another deeper layer. One should show his gratitude for God's blessings, while at the same time realizing that their sense of gratitude is in itself a blessing.

Put simply, one should be grateful that God granted them the ability to be grateful.

This duaa [prayer] encapsulates this idea.
