المثقف هو الذي يقلص أكبر قدر من السلبيات ويوسع دائرة الإيجابيات. قد يكون فلاح.. قد يكون نجار.. قد يكون عامل.. قد يكون وزير.. قد يكون أمير. المثقف ليس من يتحدث باللغة العربية الفصحى ويعرف السيمفونية التاسعة لبتهوفن وملم بلوحة الجرنيكا لبابلو بيكاسو ويعرف كم ثروة عبد الرحمن بن عوف وعلى بينة من أشعار البحتري والذي يردد دائمًا أبيات للمتنبي والذي يردد الإلياذة والأوديسة لهوميروس والذي والذي...هذا مكتظ بكم معرفي وليس مثقف. المثقف الذي لا يسهم بانتشال المجتمع من الجهل.. من التخلف.. من التعصب.. من الطائفية... من.. من.. من.. ليس مثقفًا

The true intellectual is the one who minimizes the realm of negativity and expands the realm of positivity. An intellectual could be a peasant, a carpenter, a worker, a minister, a prince. The intellectual is not one who speaks classical Arabic, enjoys Beethoven's ninth symphony, is familiar with Picasso's "Guernica", knows how much wealth Abd al-Rahman ibn Auf amassed, is well versed in the poetry of Al-Buhtari, recites verses by Al-Mutanabbi and Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey ... this person is not an intellectual.. he is simply someone crammed with information. The intellectual who does not contribute to extricating society from the abyss of ignorance, from backwardness, bigotry, sectarianism, etc. is not a true intellectual.
